Aptly named the “Island Born of Fire”, Camiguin Island in Northern Mindanao, Philippines has seven major volcanoes, with Mt. Hibok-Hibok as the only active one. After the deadly Hibok-Hibok eruption in 1951, PHIVOLCS was established here.
We’ve been to Camiguin Island twice already, yet we still can’t get enough of what this island paradise has to offer – from the majestic volcanoes and waterfalls to the hot and cold springs and white sand beaches.

Best Camiguin tourist spots for beach bums
1. White Island
No visit to Camiguin is ever complete without setting foot on the famous White Island, a long stretch of white sandbar, which can only be reached by riding a banca (small boat) from the main island.
💡Local Tip: There’s no shade here, so it’s best to put on sunblock and wear something to protect your eyes and skin. Bring some water as well to avoid dehydration.
EXPLORE WHITE ISLAND
Entrance fees: ₱50 (environmental fee); ₱550 (round-trip boat for 4 pax)
How to get there: Go to the White Island Ferry Terminal in Brgy. Yumbing, Mambajao. Pay the fees and wait for your turn to ride the boat. The island is about 10-15 minutes by boat from the terminal.
2. Mantigue Island
Another island worth exploring in Camiguin is Mantigue Island, a protected marine sanctuary with crystal-clear waters and white sand shores. If you’re lucky, you can even spot giant turtles here.
We visited the island during summer, and we truly enjoyed our time here despite the scorching heat. Just look at the photo above — paradise is calling you!
💡Local Tip: To help preserve the island, you are encouraged to stay for only 3 hours. Follow the designated swimming areas as currents may be strong in some parts of the island.
EXPLORE MANTIGUE ISLAND
Entrance fees: ₱75 (environmental fee); ₱750 (round-trip boat for 6 pax)
How to get there: Go to Mantigue Island Port in Brgy. Mahinog. Register, pay the fees, and wait for your turn. The island is about 15-30 minutes by boat from the port.

3. Mt. Hibok-Hibok
Mt. Hibok-Hibok is the only active volcano in Camiguin, which last erupted in 1951, killing thousands of people.
If you’re a mountaineer, you can climb up the summit for 3 to 6 hours with a required permit and guide. For non-hikers like us, we can just gawk in awe at the grandeur of this towering volcano in many parts of Camiguin.
💡Local Tip: The best view of Mt. Hibok-Hibok is from White Island. But for a closer view, you can head up to Granelandia (See #11 below), a new tourist spot tagged as the mini New Zealand of Camiguin.
Mt. Hibok-Hibok fees: ₱500 (DENR permit); ₱100 (ecological fee); ₱1,500 (guide fee good for 3 pax)
How to get there: Go to (DENR) – PENRO (Camiguin) to secure your permit and pay the fees. The usual jump-off point is Ardent Hot Springs.
4. Katibawasan Falls
Katibawasan Falls is a 70-meter waterfall cascading into a natural pool amid lush surroundings. It is one of the main waterfalls of Camiguin easily accessible to the public as it requires no hiking. But be careful with your steps as you descend down the stairs.
💡Local Tip: There are restrooms and cottages for rent here so you can definitely stay longer, swim, and change clothes if you wish.
VISIT KATIBAWASAN FALLS
Entrance fees: ₱75 per pax; ₱150 (shed); ₱100 (table)
How to get there: You can rent a van or motorbike going to Katibawasan Falls. From Mambajao, it is a 10-15 minute ride away.
5. Tuasan Falls
Unlike Katibawasan Falls, you need to trek for about 30 minutes to reach Tuasan Falls. Do not worry, though, as it’s just a beginner-friendly hike through the canyons.
💡Local Tip: Wear comfy shoes and clothing. Swimming is allowed but not recommended for those who easily get cold.
TREK TUASAN FALLS
Entrance fees: ₱150 per pax
How to get there: You can ride a jeepney or motorbike from Mambajao to Mainit Crossing, where you can find the jump-off point to Tuasan Falls.
6. Ardent Hot Springs
Ardent Hot Springs is a geothermal resort with man-made rock pools heated by Mt. Hibok-Hibok, as it is located at the foot of the volcano.
We stayed here on our first Camiguin getaway. However, some friends who’ve been there recently said the hot springs are no longer as hot as before. Regardless, you can still try dipping here for the experience.

Entrance fees: ₱50 per pax
How to get there: From Mambajao, you can ride a habal-habal (motorbike) or tricycle for about 10 minutes to reach Ardent Hot Springs.
7. Sto. Niño Cold Spring
We actually enjoyed taking a dip at Sto. Niño Cold Spring as the water is so refreshing, and yes, quite cold! So, be warned if you’re sensitive to extremely cold waters.
VISIT STO. NIÑO COLD SPRING
Entrance fees: ₱75 per pax
How to get there: Since it is not on the main road, you can rent a motorbike or hail a tricycle to take you to Sto. Niño Cold Spring.
8. Bura Soda Water Pool
The Bura Soda Water Pool is quite an intriguing attraction in Camiguin with water that has a soda-like fizz, filled with volcanic minerals from Mt. Hibok-Hibok. And yes, it’s drinkable! But don’t drink directly from the pool itself — there are designated faucets or pipes around the resort.
💡Local Tip: Bring your own tumbler or water bottle and fill it with soda water from the designated faucets, of course!

9. Sunken Cemetery
The Sunken Cemetery is a historical spot that’s still worth visiting in Camiguin even if you’re not the religious type. It was once a public cemetery but sank into the sea after Mt. Vulcan’s eruption in 1871. Today, it is considered a National Cultural Treasure and is a great photo spot, especially during sunset.
💡Local Tip: You can go snorkeling for a fee to see the verdant corals underneath the giant cross landmark.
VISIT SUNKEN CEMETERY
Entrance fees: Free (viewing deck); ₱100 (swimming / environmental fee); ₱150 (local guide fee for 3-4 pax)
How to get there: Rent a motorbike or hire a multicab to take you to the Sunken Cemetery.
10. Guiob Church Ruins
From the Sunken Cemetery, you can just walk to Guiob Church Ruins. Here, you can see the bygone era of Spanish-colonial architecture completely taken over by nature after the devastating 1871 Mt. Vulcan eruption.
Previously, you could visit this historical landmark for free, but now you have to pay an admission fee for its maintenance. After all, it is now considered a National Cultural Treasure.

How to get there: From the Sunken Cemetery, just walk for about 7 minutes to reach the ruins.
Relatively new Camiguin tourist spots
11. Granelandia: Echoes of the Ridge
Granelandia: Echoes of the Ridge is tagged as the “mini New Zealand of Camiguin” due to its similarity to the rolling hills and green pastures of New Zealand. It’s also one of the most picturesque spots to view Mt. Hibok-Hibok up close.
💡Local Tip: There is a mini store at the entrance where you can buy some local snacks and drinks in case you feel a little hungry.
Entrance fees: ₱30 (adults); ₱25 (seniors & PWDs); ₱10 (children); Free (children below 10 yrs old)
How to get there: As it is located up the mountain, you need to hire a car or motorbike to reach Granelandia.
12. Katunggan Park
Katunggan Park is one of the relatively new tourist spots in Camiguin, which we visited on our last trip. Here, we followed a boardwalk that made us wander through the mangroves while feeling the cool sea breeze.
💡Local Tip: There is a white sandy portion where you may rent a cottage and go swimming or snorkeling.
Entrance fees: ₱50 (tourists); ₱30 (locals); ₱40 (seniors, PWDs, children 7 yrs old and above); Free (children below 6 yrs old)
How to get there: From Mambajao Terminal, ride a jeep or multicab to Benoni Port. Tell the driver to drop you off at Katunggan Park. The jeepney fare is around ₱35.
