10 Best Mount Fuji Viewing Spots & How to Get There
Mount Fuji, an iconic symbol of Japan, is truly worth seeing at least once in your life. Luckily for us, we already ticked this off our travel bucket list on our 10-day Japan spring trip where we went on a day trip to Hakone, one of the best Mount Fuji viewing spots.
If you want to see the breathtaking Mount Fuji views, visit these Mt. Fuji viewing spots — some are easy day trips from Tokyo, while others are just within Tokyo.
Best Mt. Fuji viewing spots from Tokyo
1. Hakone

Our friend, who was based in Japan, recommended that we go to Hakone, a scenic mountain town known for its onsen (hot spring) resorts, and of course, scenic Mt. Fuji views.

2. Arakurayama Sengen Park

Head over to Arakurayama Sengen Park for this postcard-worthy view of Mt. Fuji. The five-story Chureito Pagoda here is probably the most photographed pagoda in all of Japan. And, if you visit during the Japan cherry blossom season, you can see all these Japanese icons in one frame.

How to get there: From Tokyo’s Shinjuku Station, ride the JR Chuo Line to Otsuki Station. Transfer to the Fujikyuko Line going to Shimoyoshida Station, where you can walk for 10 minutes to reach the shrine. Another option is to ride the Shinjuku-Fujigoko Bus at Shinjuku Bus Terminal, which takes you directly to Shimoyoshida Bus Stop.

3. Lake Kawaguchi

Lake Kawaguchi or Kawaguchiko is one of the scenic spots to see Mt. Fuji and the most accessible among the Fuji Five Lakes. 4. Imamiya Tea Field

If you’re a tea lover, you should definitely go to Imamiya Tea Field in Shizuoka’s Fuji City, about 30km from Mt. Fuji. Visit in May when the tea leaves are its greenest, offering a different contrast to the commanding view of Mt. Fuji.

How to get there: No public transport going there. You can rent a car from Shizuoka Station and Mishima Station.
5. Urui River

The Urui River is a spectacular place to see Mt. Fuji and spot cherry blossoms, too! In early April, the sakura trees bloom along the riverbanks, offering breathtaking views of Mount Fuji.

8. Tokyo Skytree

At 634 meters, Tokyo Skytree is Japan’s tallest tower and one of the tallest in the world. On a clear day, the observation deck offers a 360-degree view of the city as well as Mt. Fuji.

9. Tokyo Tower

Also known as Japan Radio Tower, Tokyo Tower is both a communications and an observation tower. At 332.9 meters, it is the second tallest tower in Japan after Tokyo Skytree. In good weather conditions, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Tokyo and Mt. Fuji from the two observation decks: the Main Deck and the Top Deck.

10. Roppongi Hills Mori Tower

At 238 meters, Roppongi Hills Mori Tower is one of the tallest skyscrapers in Japan. Go up the City View observation deck on the 52nd floor to see a bird’s-eye view of Tokyo and the surrounding landscape including Mt. Fuji.

On our Hakone day trip, we failed to see Mt. Fuji due to the dark clouds. Fortunately, on our way to Tokyo from Osaka via Shinkansen, Mt. Fuji appeared to us from our window. Just look at its grandeur. We were speechless!
Tip: From Kansai, sit on the left side of the Shinkansen to spot Mt. Fuji like we did. If you are from Tokyo, sit on the ride side.
