This is a bit later than the autumn season in Korea and Japan, which normally starts as early as September.

When is the best time to travel to Taiwan for autumn foliage? You can plan your trip during the yearly estimated Taiwan fall foliage forecast dates, usually from late October to early December, with a peak foliage in November.

Taipei
1. Yangmingshan National Park


Yangmingshan National Park is a top tourist spot in Taiwan for nature lovers. In fact, it is not only visited for its pink cherry blossoms in spring, but also for its yellow leaves and white silvergrass blanketing the natural landscape during the fall season.
Here, you can come across sulfur onsens and scenic trails like Qingtiangang Grassland, making your autumn hiking experience one for the books.

2. Maokong
See the beauty of Taiwan’s autumn foliage from a different vantage point by riding the Maokong Gondola, which also takes you to Taipei Zoo.
As you ride the cable car, you’ll be wowed by the different shades of autumn hues on the tea fields and nature trails down below.

Northern Taiwan
3. Wulai Scenic Area


Wulai Scenic Area is a picture-perfect destination in New Taipei City, which turns even more surreal during autumn, when red maple trees line the path leading to the majestic waterfalls.

4. North Coast (Yehliu Geopark, Jiufen, Shifen)


The North Coast, where you can find Yehliu Geopark, Jiufen, and Shifen, is an easy day trip from Taipei. It is frequented by many tourists for its old-world charm and surreal nature.

5. Sun Moon Lake

Aowanda National Forest is a top spot for Taiwan autumn foliage as it is home to hundreds of tree species including the Japanese maples. In fact, you can follow the Maple Trail for a scenic walk under the ethereal shades of red, orange, and golden yellow.
In addition, you can follow the Forest Trail and Pine Trail, or walk through the 90-metre high suspension bridge, if you dare!

9. Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area


Taipingshan is a popular spot to view autumn foliage in Taiwan with its variety of beech trees and purple-leafed maples, blanketing the surroundings with an alluring palette of colors.
Follow scenic trails, including Cuifeng Lake Trail and Bong Bong Trail, or hop on a mini-train for an added adventure.

10. Alishan National Scenic Area


Alishan is always beautiful any season with its lush forests and tea gardens. But it becomes even more magical during autumn with shades of yellow, orange, and brown along the scenic route.
